As we approach Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the profound sacrifice made by the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. This day is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom and the debt we owe to those who have paid the ultimate price to protect it.

While we honor the fallen, we also celebrate the freedoms they fought to preserve. Many of us will gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, enjoy outdoor activities, and kick off the summer season. As you make your plans, please keep safety in mind:
- Grill Safety: If you’re planning a barbecue, ensure your grill is in good working condition and keep it away from structures, trees, and dry vegetation. Never leave a lit grill unattended.
- Water Safety: If your plans involve swimming or boating, follow all safety guidelines, wear life jackets when necessary, and ensure children are supervised at all times around water.
- Sun Safety: Protect your skin by applying sunscreen with an appropriate SPF, wearing protective clothing, and staying hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses.
- Travel Safety: If you’re hitting the road, buckle up, obey traffic laws, and never drink and drive. Be prepared for heavy traffic and allow extra time to reach your destination safely.
As we enjoy the freedoms and opportunities that Memorial Day represents, let us never forget the sacrifices that have made them possible. Take a moment to honor the fallen, express gratitude to those who have served, and cherish the time spent with loved ones.
From all of us at the 166th RTI, we wish you a safe, meaningful, and memorable Memorial Day weekend.
