Nestled within Fort Indiantown Gap, the Medical Battalion Training Site (MBTS) stands as one of only two organizations of its kind in the nation. With a mission to provide comprehensive medical training to both medical and non-medical personnel, MBTS is at the forefront of ensuring our military’s readiness to save lives in any situation.
At the heart of MBTS’s operations is the 68W Healthcare Specialist Military Occupational Specialty Transition (MOS-T) course, a rigorous program designed to equip Soldiers with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel as combat medics. In addition to this flagship course, MBTS is proud to announce the introduction of the 68W Advanced Leaders Course (ALC), further expanding its educational offerings. The ALC is designed to enhance the leadership skills and medical expertise of seasoned 68W Healthcare Specialists, preparing them for increased responsibilities and challenges in their careers.
Beyond these core programs, MBTS offers a range of additional training opportunities, including the 68W Comprehensive Medical Training / Sustainment, Combat Lifesaver (CLS), and Basic Life Support (BLS) courses. Recognizing the diverse needs of the military community, MBTS also provides customizable training and support to requesting units and organizations when resources permit.
What sets MBTS apart is its unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of training excellence. All courses are conducted in accordance with the Total Army School System (TASS) standards, mirroring the curriculum of the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Courses at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Leveraging current doctrine, advanced training materials, experienced certified instructors, and state-of-the-art equipment, MBTS ensures that Soldiers receive the most relevant and effective training possible. By integrating real-world scenarios and challenges faced in the current operating environment (COE), MBTS prepares Soldiers to excel in theater operations upon mobilization.
A State-of-the-Art Training Environment
The MBTS facility is a testament to the organization’s dedication to providing an immersive and realistic training experience. The main building houses classrooms and a cutting-edge, total immersion medical simulation center built around the principles of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3). From the Care Under Fire Room, which simulates an urban intersection, to the dynamic Tactical Field Care Room and the Tactical Casualty Evacuation Room, which replicates both a UH-60 Blackhawk and M997 HMMWV Ambulance, Soldiers are exposed to a wide range of scenarios designed to hone their skills and decision-making abilities. The EMT Mock House Room adds another layer of realism, allowing for the training of homeland response considerations.
To enhance the training experience, simulation rooms are equipped with realistic lights, sounds, scents, and smoke, creating an immersive environment that closely mimics real-world situations. Infrared video cameras record scenario training, enabling comprehensive after-action reviews and facilitating continuous improvement.
Advancing Medical Simulation Technology
MBTS is not only a consumer of advanced simulation technology but also plays an active role in its development. The organization works closely with research and development entities to provide input during the initial developmental stages and BETA tests devices to offer valuable feedback. From weighted mannequins for patient movement to remote-controlled trauma trainers and Wi-Fi-enabled simulators for advanced medical interventions, MBTS employs a wide array of human patient simulators with varying degrees of fidelity to accommodate a multitude of training tasks.
By actively engaging in the advancement of medical simulation technology, MBTS ensures that its training remains at the forefront of innovation, equipping Soldiers with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills to save lives on and off the battlefield.
